Oily skin can cause acne breakouts, black heads and give you a permanently shiny look. We all want a youthful glow, but not at the expense of a smooth complexion. Here are some tips to help you combat the oil slick look and give you healthier skin.
- Cleanse every day – Oily skin LOVES to be cleansed, especially with a gel based cleanser. This will help clean out clogged pores and strip away excess oil. There are many gentle cleansers on the market specifically for oily skin. If you need something stronger, look for ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or beta-hydroxy acid which are also great for tackling acne.
- Use a toner. Toners are great for cleansing any residue dirt and oil from your skin. Simply apply toner onto a cotton ball and swipe over your face paying special attention to hard to reach areas such as around your nose.
- Exfoliate once or twice a week. Exfoliating your skin helps to get rid of the dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover, which brings healthy skin to the surface faster. Don’t be too rough, as this can cause breakouts.
- Use a weekly mask. There are many great masks that help clean out your pores and tighten them. People with oily skin often complain about large pores, but a weekly mask should help reduce the size. Masks made with clay are great for oily skin.
- Moisturise. It may sound counter-intuitive to add moisture to oily skin, but your skin desperately needs it. Use something light, like a serum to give your face the moisture it needs.
- Blot. If you have oil build up in between facial washings, use a medicated pad or blotting paper to remove excess oil.
Shaving Tip: We recommend Face Guard which carefully cleanses your skin & softens the facial hair to prepare it for shaving. It then creates a barrier, lubricating your skin & protecting it to allow closer contact from the shaver, while active ingredients work to penetrate & moisturise, leaving your skin feeling ultra smooth.
