So you want to play your part in saving the planet. You reduce, reuse and recycle, but are you being environmentally friendly when you shave? It’s estimated that during a lifetime men spend over 35 days shaving, and three days of shaving in the shower wastes as much energy as an entire year of shaving at the sink! That’s a lot of energy being used in your lifetime so it’s fair to assume that as a responsible shaver you want to know all there is about being eco-friendly in the razor department.

Disposable Razors
Disposable razors may be convenient, but they are made from plastic and other materials that are hard on the environment, plus they have to be thrown away after just a couple of uses.
Disposable razors make an unhealthy contribution to landfills around the world and every year we throw out a lot of disposables (2 billion in America alone!)  That’s a huge pile of metal and plastic entering the waste stream. Most of them can’t be recycled, because they’re dangerous to disassemble and it just wouldn’t be cost efficient.

Disposable razors contain valuable and rare elements such as tungsten, and are made from steel which must also be mined from the earth. While an electric shaver does use steel, tungsten and other alloys, one set of blades will last for over a year and can be recycled.  Electric shavers are more eco friendly both in terms of saving scarce resources and saving your time, energy and gasoline in extra trips to the store to stock up on more disposables.

Electric Shavers
Electrics are usually powered by nickel-metal hydride batteries, which are recyclable in most places and are less toxic than lithium or nickel cadmium rechargeables. Electric shavers are now mostly being produced as eco-friendly shavers. Plenty of the shavers now re-charge more energy-efficiently and there are plenty of other electric shavers produced that can be charged by solar power.
With the new electric shavers, you will only need to buy one shaver that will last you many conventional razor lifetimes before you need to buy another. Now you can save the environment, get a clean shave and save money by using eco-friendly shaving electric shavers.

Shaving Lotion. There’s no need for expensive shaving creams and lotions which only add to the pollution of the environment with harsh chemicals when you can use Face Guard with its scientifically formulated 3-in-1 Tri-tech anti rash system, Face Guard replaces old style shaving creams, expensive moisturisers & after-shave balms in just one easy application.

NEW SHAVERS: Procter & Gamble’s Braun division has introduced a line of Energy Star-certified shaver chargers which will use 64 percent less energy than standard shavers and, according to the company, will save over 12 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year, or the equivalent of removing 1,073 cars from the road.

SAVE ELECTRICITY:  Although electric shavers don’t use much energy, you can reduce even this small amount of electricity by using Wind ‘N Go Freedom Shaver that does not require batteries or electricity. The human powered razor uses the dynamo charging system or back-up home and car power adapters.
