Bad breath stinks, but what can we actually do about it? The common solutions to bad breath include- brushing your teeth, chew a gum, or suck on a mint etc. However, these methods offer some benefits, but they aren’t long lasting. Even studies reveal that brushing your teeth is itself not an effective treatment to bad breath.

Curing your bad breath and keeping teeth and gums healthy is easier than you think. Here are some ways that help you get rid of bad breath and have a clean, fresher mouth.

Brush and Floss Twice a Day
One of the major causes of bad breath is bacteria. Plaque, the sticky build up on your teeth collects bacteria and results in bad breath. To avoid bad breath, you should brush your teeth and floss twice a day. Don’t overdo as it can be harmful. If you brush too hard you can wear down your teeth, making them vulnerable to decay.
Clean your Tongue
The coating that layers on your tongue can be a host of smelly bacteria. To get rid of them, you need to clean your tongue gently with your toothbrush. However, if you feel that the toothbrush is too big and cannot reach the back of your tongue, then try using a tongue scraper. Experts also recommend a tongue scraper as a better approach to clean away the bacteria that cause bad breath.
Keep your Mouth Well-Hydrated
You can get tooth decay or bad breath, if you don’t make enough saliva. If your mouth is dry, drink plenty of water throughout the day. Also, you can chew a sugarless gum or suck on a sugar-free hard candy.
Say “No” to Tobacco & Cigarette Smoking
Besides causing cancer, tobacco and cigarette smoking can stain your teeth, damage gums and cause bad breath. Cigarette smoking and tobacco habits are not easy to quit.  However, getting help from a doctor and prescription medications will help you quit smoking.

Heeding to the above mentioned tips will help you get rid of the bad breath. However, if the bad breath continues despite your best efforts, then consider seeing your dentist.
