Keeping your beard soft and hydrated is not only good grooming practise, it will enhance your look of wellbeing. There are several ways to keep your beard healthy and dandruff-free.
Simply follow these simple tips to rid your beard of the flakey white stuff.
Beard conditioning with oils
Beard oils can seal moisture in and keep it hydrated. They are made from a combination of carrier and essential oils to make the hair softer, reducing itchiness and preventing dandruff. Try one of these dandruff busting oil solutions:
Coconut oil: An antibacterial, antifungal and a great all round moisturiser that penetrates the hair and skin effectively. Coconut oil contains lauric acid to help reduce inflammation caused by dandruff.
Olive oil: Contains oleic acid and gives your face and beard the necessary moisture to reduce beard dandruff.
Tea tree oil: A refreshing, woody scented oil that fights beard dandruff with its anti-fungal and disinfectant properties. It can heal both skin and hair.
Jojoba, argan, sweet almond, chamomile, lavender, and hemp seed:These scented natural oils are generally great for your hair and skin. Apply a few drops of oil one or two times a day for a super healthy beard.
Apply a good beard balm
If you don’t like beard oils, get a balm instead. It is best for longer beards as it contains beeswax. It keeps your beard soft and skin nourished and is especially good for protection in cold weather.
Apply a gentle shampoo
Use your favourite shampoo to remove dirt and debris from your skin and facial hair. Dried, dead skin flakes and fungus can cause dandruff in your beard so regularly exfoliate your skin to get the best results. Avoid using regular soap to clean your face as it strips away all facial moisture and may make your dandruff issue worsen.
Use a beard brush
Use a natural boar bristle beard brush to help distribute the skin’s natural sebum oil across the length of your facial hair. Notice how it makes beard softer and healthier.
Improve your eating habits
A study shows that dandruff may be linked to what you eat. Eating a healthy diet including lots of green vegetables, fruits, cereals, and pulses may help reduce dandruff issues. Wheat and milk products may increase the risk of dandruff in Men with allergies, so if that’s you, a healthy beard may require cutting these back or cutting them out altogether.
Remember …
A healthy beard relies on a healthy you along with a little bit of good grooming.
