A prerequisite to adopting any prevention measures for avoiding a razor burn is using the right shaving technique. Everything else is secondary. Additional protection, however, can be assured by following the below-mentioned tips for preventing razor burn.
1. Prior to using the razor for shaving ensure that you scrub your face each time using a good quality facial scrub or loofah to get rid of the dead skin and to bring out ingrown hairs.
2. Discard the rough soap bars or foam on your bathroom shelf. They’ll do more harm than good to your facial skin. Instead, pick a good shaving cream to do the job. It’s better if you go in for a cream rich in glycerin and coconut oil which is also free of alcohol. Also, avoid products that mention menthol on their labels as menthol can numb the skin and make it hard to determine if you’re experiencing a razor drag.
3. For both smooth and a safer shave, it is better to use sharp blades. A dull blade is one of the most common contributors of a razor burn. To make sure you’ve always got the sharpest blades in you kitty, make sure to replace the cartridge every five to seven days. To maintain the blade for longer use, dip your razor in alcohol after the final rinse. Also, rinse your blade more frequently using cool water to remove the leftover shaving cream and whiskers.
4. Make it a practice to shave with the grain so as to minimize the risk of irritation and getting your skin inflamed. Avoid passing the blade over the same area more than once as each pass shaves off a small layer of skin.
5. After the shave is complete, do not forget to moisturize your face using a good aftershave balm or lotion to retain the moisture in the skin. Look for a balm that contains Shea butter, aloe Vera, and glycerin.
Following the above tips will surely help you keep your shaving routine free of burns. Make it a practice to follow these and you’ll soon feel like a pro at painless shaving!
