Moisturising For Men

A regular skincare routine is something that many men now incorporate into their daily lives. Gone are the days when a man would wake up, splash a little water on their face and head out of the door. After discovering the benefits of skincare products, it has become widely accepted that men now like to take as much care of their skin as women do.

If you’re looking to protect your skin, and in search of anti-aging techniques, there’s one product you need to invest in, and that’s a good men’s moisturiser.

Why moisturising is important?
Did you know that your skin has a pretty good memory? It remembers everything that you do to it. As you age, the signs of damage soon start to show. That’s why many dermatologists recommend men start to use skincare products at an early an age as possible. The more you look after your skin, the better you will look. Moisturisers are designed to keep your skin looking and feeling fresh, soft and healthy. When it lacks moisture, your skin appears dull and it can lead to various skin conditions such as eczema.

Men’s skin vs women’s skin
It is important to note that men’s moisturising needs are slightly different to that of women. This is due to a man’s skin being thicker, and other differences to a woman’s skin, for example, generally speaking, more men than women tend to work outdoors. This means they need a moisturiser that will provide adequate SPF sun protection, as well as hydration for the skin. Therefore when choosing the right moisturiser, you need to pay attention to your own skin requirements.

Using your moisturiser
Once you’ve managed to find the perfect men’s moisturiser, it’s now time to figure out how to use it. Unfortunately it isn’t just a case of slapping it on and leaving it to work. There are a few things you need to do in order to ensure your moisturising regime works effectively.

How to apply men’s moisturiser

Step #1: Cleanse your face
Cleansing could actually be seen as the most important step in your skincare routine. It sets the groundwork for your moisturiser. Cleaning the face with a good facial cleanser thoroughly ensures your moisturiser will be absorbed properly.

Step #2: Apply on slightly damp skin
One tip that helps to get the most out of your moisturiser is to apply it to slightly damp skin. After you’ve washed your face, pat it dry with a towel (don’t rub), then you can begin applying the moisturiser.

Step #3: A little goes a long way
One of the biggest mistakes you can make is using too much moisturiser. If you pile it on your face it can have a negative effect on the skin. Use a little and spread it evenly over the face, starting at the driest area the cheeks.

Step #4: Use small circular motions
When rubbing the moisturiser in, don’t be too heavy handed. While a man’s skin is tougher than a woman’s, it still requires gentle care. Use small circular motions with the tips of your fingers to massage the moisturiser in.

Step #5: Use a good night cream
Night creams should become part of your skincare ritual. The importance of hydrating your face while you sleep cannot be emphasised enough.

Ideally you should moisturise twice each day; once in the morning and once in the evening. It’s also worth noting that the skin around the eyes would benefit from a proper eye cream, rather than a facial moisturiser.
