Over time, your skin suffers natural wear-and-tear, just like the rest of our bodies. But, it’s not just growing age that causes fine lines and wrinkles. Due to sun exposure and other factors, our skin can start showing signs of aging.
-
Our skin gets thinner, loses fat, and plump smooth skin is replaced by rough texture
-
Weakened skin is prone to droop of jowls or chicken fat under arms.
-
Our genetic code is also a major factor- leading to a skin that looks 50 at 80 in some people, unfortunately it is reversed.
Wash Your Face Twice a Day- You may not realize but your face accumulates numerous dust particles from the air around. So, cleansing your face is really important. Wash your face twice a day- morning and night (before you go to bed). Experts recommend a cleanser containing glycolic acid as it will help slough off the dead skin cells, which make your skin look dull.
Moisturise- A good moisturiser plays a key role in keeping skin hydrated after cleansing your face. And as you know well moisturised skin makes wrinkles less noticeable. In the morning, apply a lotion with an SPF of 20 or higher that offers both UVA and UVB protection because exposure to sun rays is the top causes of wrinkles.
Drink lots of Water- Drinking seven to nine glasses of water a day will help keep your skin moisturised, giving it a better tone and a more youthful looking appearance. “Maintaining adequate fluid intake is very, very important,” says Salerno, author of the book ‘Basic Prevention: A Guide to Healthy Aging’.
Stop Smoking- Yes, you may believe it or not, but cigarette smoking will make you look old by creating wrinkles and lines around your mouth and eyes. Not only will it result in dull skin, but also stain your teeth. Also, it can cause a number of health problems that will age you quickly.
Facial Massage- Massaging your skin will stimulate the blood circulation and temporarily tightens muscles, and eventually tightens your skin too. Pick a good moisturising lotion and using your middle fingers gently rub your facial skin in circular motion. It will help retain skin elasticity and keep it healthy and young.
Sleep Well– “Getting appropriate sleep is very important for how you look,” Salerno says. Not enough sleep can result in bags under your eyes and other health consequences that may make you appear older. One study from the psychiatry department at Penn State College of Medicine stated “sleep deprivation can affect men’s mental acuity more than women’s.” So, it is important that you take a restful sleep of seven to eight hours a day.
Integrating these tips in your grooming regimen will help you prevent premature skin aging and maintain its healthy and charming appearance.
